'WARREN H. WILLIAMS, Feels like Home’ - 2018 Archibald entry

Warren is a country music performer and proud Arrernte man, with a deep connection to family, culture and the land. We drove south from Alice Springs, through the MacDonnell Ranges, to Hermannsburg; a scattering of houses, a small grocery store and petrol station.

He sits on a stone slab near the old Mission church; a simple sandstone building dating back to 1896. A ghost gum supports the lone bell which called them into Sunday school, and casts a sheltering shadow across the wall.  Blue skies, red earth and a smattering of leaf litter on the ground - Warren grew up here and it feels like home.
